The My Safe Florida Home Program Reopens August 4th — Here’s What You Need to Know 🏡🌪️

Big news for Florida homeowners! Starting Monday, August 4th, the My Safe Florida Home program is reopening—offering matching grants of up to $10,000 to help strengthen your home against hurricanes.

If you’ve been thinking about making upgrades to better protect your home and potentially lower your insurance costs, now’s the time to get started.

💡 What is the My Safe Florida Home Program?

Originally launched in 2022, the program provides grants to homeowners who take specific steps to harden their homes against storm damage. It’s been a huge success, helping over 39,000 Floridians with more than $369 million in reimbursements.

Thanks to new funding approved this year, the program is back—with some updated rules and income-based eligibility.

🧾 Who Can Apply?

This year, the focus is on low- and moderate-income homeowners, especially those who have already had their windstorm mitigation inspections done. If you haven’t started the process yet, don’t wait!

Note: Higher-income homeowners won’t be able to apply until after the priority window closes on September 29—and only if funds are still available.

🔨 What Improvements Are Covered?

Eligible upgrades include:

  • Roof replacements and secondary water barriers

  • Roof-to-wall and roof-to-deck reinforcements

  • Impact windows, hurricane shutters, garage doors, and entry door upgrades

These improvements can boost your home’s durability and possibly earn you a discount on insurance premiums—a win-win in Florida!

💰 Matching Grant Details

  • Low-income homeowners: No matching contribution required

  • Moderate-income homeowners: 2-to-1 match (you pay $1 for every $2 granted)

  • Homes must be owner-occupied, site-built, and have a homestead exemption

  • The insured value of the home must be $700,000 or less (low-income homeowners are exempt from this limit)
